Abergavenny Leisure Centre New Development Opening Day!

Abergavenny Leisure Development FAQs

When are the re-development works due to commence?

The works are due to start week commencing 30th August 2021.

When will all the facilities re-open?

Based on current information given to us from the contractors we are hopeful that we will be looking at a full re-opening in early January 2022.

What are you doing to Abergavenny Leisure Centre during the refurbishment?

Based on the current proposals the refurbishment of Abergavenny Leisure Centre will create a wellness hub over the first floor to create modern leisure facilities for the local community helping to increase participation in regular physical activity.

The proposed new facilities will include:

  • Extended Fitness Suite with new equipment
  • Dedicated Group Exercise Studio
  • Spin Studio
  • New Fitness Changing Facilities with dedicated accessible changing
  • Ground Floor Coffee Vending Offer
Will the leisure centre remain open during the refurbishment?

Yes. The leisure centre will remain open during the refurbishment works, however please be aware that there will be some disruption and additional noise on site whilst the works are ongoing.

Are there any changing and shower facilities available in the temporary gym?

Showers and Changing facilities will be available in the main leisure centre building Monday – Friday before 8am and after 5pm, and on weekends they will be available between 8:15am – 6pm. Unfortunately there will be no changing facilities outside of these hours so we recommend that users arrive gym ready where possible.

What impact will the refurbishment have on current users of the leisure centre?

Due to the nature of the refurbishment, there will unfortunately be an impact on some users. There will be a reduced number of car parking spaces, where possible we would encourage walking and cycling to and from the site. There will be a complete closure of the first floor but a temporary fitness offer will be available. All club bookings affected by the works will be contacted separately.

Where can I find up to date information regarding the scheduled maintenance works?

  • Accessible changing facilities
  • Automatic Doors
Will there be a temporary gym facility provided for the duration of the closure?

Yes. We will be providing a temporary fitness suite offer which will be situated in the school gym (opposite main reception).

When will the gym relocate to the temporary facility?

It is likely that the temporary facility will be in operation from Saturday 28th August 2021.

Will there be any amendments to the current fitness class timetable?

There will be a slightly amended fitness class offer for the duration of the works; however, it will include classes such as Fit4Life and Spin.  Circuits and Aqua will also continue in the Sports Hall and Swimming pool respectively.  Tai Chi, Yoga and Pilates will also be available via our On Demand and Livestreaming Service as part of the Leisure Centre membership.

Will the National Exercise Referral Scheme be available?

The Exercise Referral Scheme for Abergavenny will continue being delivered via Virtual Platforms, and will return for Face-to-Face Delivery when the refurbished leisure centre reopens from January 2022.

Will there be any impact on the Learn 2 Swim programme?

All children attending any of our swimming lessons will now need to be dropped off and collected from the swimming pool fire exit door. All parents affected by this change have been notified.

What will the layout of the new gym look like?

Proposals for the new gym layout can be seen here. We will be including the latest Technogym equipment including the Excite range. In addition to this there will be a new dedicated spin studio and a dedicated group exercise studio.
